I was recently at an event and the customer spent more on table linens then on their DJ. The tables looked great but the party was a complete bore. These tips will help make sure you ask the right questions when hiring your DJ.
Question #1 – Always ask to meet with your potential DJ. This will allow you to see if they are professional or just a weekend warrior. It is very important that the DJ is a professional. It is very easy to buy an iPod and claim you are a DJ. Many events are ruined by bad DJ’s.

Question #3 – Ask them what type of equipment they use. Ask them if they use CD’s or MP3’s. Ask them if they include wireless microphones and lighting at no additional charge. Ask them how many songs they have in their library.
Question #4 – Ask them if there is any hidden fees in their price. If you need to add additional equipment such as ceremony music or video projectors you most likely will have to pay an additional fee. Also it is important to find out if the Tip / Gratuity is included in the price. Remember the DJ is the life blood of your event; it is customary to tip at least 15% if you are happy with the service.
Question #5 – Plan everything out, use your DJ to run the event. Choose a timeline and the appropriate music for the event. Make sure you have everything in writing, and your vendors are all on the same page.
