Mimes make me think of France, white faces, and berets. That’s probably because the common mime we know of today got its fame and recognition when a French artist and actor sort of made mimes what we know them today. Miming actually got its start in ancient Greece, as performers would pantomime acts for thousands of people in auditoriums.
Miming is essentially acting out characters and motions without the use of props (or very few) and no words. One must know the art of expression to convey such things as opening a window, opening a door, and many other tasks that we do in everyday life right in thin air! It is entertaining to watch mimes perform. Mime artists can be found all over the world now, and it is indeed an art. There are schools for mime just as there are schools for clowns and illusionists. It is truly one of the performing arts!
Mime makeup usually consists of a white face (totally white face paint) and black accents, drawn on with eyeliner. Eyebrows are drawn on, and eyelashes are enhanced with mascara. Mimes are a fun way to entertain kids and adults of all ages. There are lots of mimes and mime troups listed here in My Party Planner.com, so feel free to take a look around and inquire with some of them. They can really add a funny and whimsical air to your next party!
