BOOYA is a group of friends who enjoy performing their unique, rhythm-driven, inspirational
music for audiences. BOOYA plays a wide variety of music, from Bob Marley and Johnny Cash,
to the Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead, and Led Zeppelin, as well as including traditional hymns, Irish drinking songs, and BOOYA originals. BOOYA plays diverse and extraordinary combinations of acoustic and electric instruments, and has been performing in the East Valley, the Phoenix area, and New Mexico for about 5 years. BOOYA has appeared at the Sail Inn, DâArcy McGees, OâConnorâs Irish Pub, Teakwoods Tavern & Grill, Uncle Bearâs Bar & Grill, Hollywood Alley, Club Rio (Paradise on the Patio), Sets, Stateside, Rula Bula, Molly Branniganâs, Fibber Magees, The Fountain Hills St. Patrickâs Day Festival 2006 and 2007, and the 2009 Festival, the Navajo Indian Reservation, weddings, and numerous charity functions. BOOYA can tailor make their sound according to any venue.
The History of BOOYA
It all started with Jordan Webb (Lead Vocals and Guitar) and Tom Kowalczyk (12 String Rhythm Guitar), who played together for 10 years in the East Valley classic rock-and-blues band StumbleFish. After performing 5 hour shows, Jordan and Tom would go to Kevin Schalickâs home to hangout and play their acoustics around the backyard fire pit. Kevin (Mandolin, Banjo, Dulcimer, Harmonica, and Ukulele) had a dream to call their group BOOYA. Mike Rothra (Bass) was soon asked to join them. Ted Gibson (Backup Vocals, Keyboard, Congas/Bongos, and Didgeridoo), an ASU vocal major, came aboard to lend his considerable talents, while David Davis (Drums) added his breathtaking beats to complete their distinctive sound. BOOYA first played at Walt Richardsonâs Open Mic nights at Stateside Grill and Rula Bula. Now, BOOYA can be found playing at the best venues/bars in Arizona.
